Shafi Bikhan Sheikh, the prime accused in the Nashik TCS sexual harassment and alleged forced religious conversion case, has claimed he was assaulted by fellow inmates at Nashik Road Jail while in judicial custody. The allegation was made during an in-camera court hearing after he and co-accused Raza Rafiq Memon were re-arrested and produced before a local court.
The court has remanded both accused to police custody till April 18, while authorities continue investigating multiple complaints filed by women employees of the company’s Nashik unit. The case has drawn significant attention as allegations of workplace harassment and institutional failure continue to emerge. Sheikh told the court that he was beaten by other inmates while in custody and has sought protection inside the jail. However, officials have not confirmed any medical examination following the allegation. Authorities have not issued a detailed statement on the claim, and the matter is expected to be reviewed as part of standard custodial procedures.
The accused have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections related to:
- Outraging the modesty of a woman
- Sexual harassment
- Acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman

So far, seven employees, including six men working at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services and one HR manager, have been arrested across nine cases.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe complaints from eight women employees who allege sustained harassment. Some complainants have also alleged pressure to convert religion and claims of religious insensitivity by senior colleagues.
Following the allegations, N Chandrasekaran described the situation as “gravely concerning and anguishing,” confirming that an internal review is underway under senior leadership to determine accountability.
Separately, the National Commission for Women has constituted a fact-finding committee to independently examine the allegations.
Police officials have also cautioned media outlets and social media users against sharing content that could reveal the identity of the complainants. Authorities reiterated that disclosing or indirectly identifying victims in sexual harassment cases is a criminal offence.
