Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Takes Former Judge Giribala Singh Into Custody After Madhya Pradesh High Court Cancels Her Bail

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday took former district judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of deceased model and actor Twisha Sharma, into custody after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed her anticipatory bail in the high-profile death case. Twisha Sharma, 33, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, as reported by TOI. The case, initially investigated by local police, was later transferred to the CBI following intervention by the Supreme Court and mounting public scrutiny over allegations of dowry harassment and possible evidence tampering.

According to court observations cited in multiple reports, the decision was influenced by evidence including WhatsApp chats, alleged injury marks, and claims of sustained harassment made by Twisha Sharma’s family. The court also took note of allegations that attempts may have been made to interfere with evidence after Sharma’s death.

Following the High Court order, a CBI team reached Giribala Singh’s residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area and later took her into custody for questioning. The agency has already taken over the investigation from the Bhopal police and formed a special team to probe the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death.

On Wednesday, a Bhopal court also remanded Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, to CBI custody as investigators widened the probe into the alleged dowry death case. Officials are examining digital records, call details, CCTV-related evidence, and statements from family members and other witnesses as part of the investigation.

The case has drawn national attention due to the involvement of a retired judicial officer and allegations that influential individuals attempted to shield the accused.

During recent proceedings, the Supreme Court said it was “pained” by suggestions that the judiciary was protecting those accused in the case and assured that a fair investigation would be ensured. The apex court had earlier ordered an immediate CBI probe into Sharma’s death.

Twisha Sharma’s family has consistently alleged that she faced harassment related to dowry demands after her marriage. They have also raised concerns over alleged post-incident phone calls and possible manipulation of evidence at the residence where she died.

The accused family members have denied wrongdoing. The investigation remains ongoing, and the CBI has not yet filed its final conclusions before the court. Legal proceedings in the matter are expected to continue in the coming days as the agency records statements and analyzes forensic and electronic evidence linked to the case.
