A pregnant woman allegedly suffered a miscarriage after being kicked in the abdomen while trying to rescue her elderly father-in-law during an assault in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, police said on Tuesday, July 21. Four men have been booked in connection with the incident, which police said stemmed from an old dispute between the families.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 12 in Bhamaura village, but a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on July 20 after the woman was discharged from hospital and returned home, police said. According to Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar Singh, the complainant, Nisha Devi (20), alleged that four brothers from the same village, Subhash, Jugesh, Ramesh and Rakesh, were assaulting her father-in-law with sticks outside their house over an old dispute.
When Nisha intervened to protect him, the accused allegedly turned on her. Police said that, according to the complaint, one of the accused, identified as Ramesh, repeatedly kicked her in the abdomen. Delhi Man Arrested in Uttar Pradesh for Murder of Wife Using Scissors.
Woman Shifted to Hospital
The officer said Nisha allegedly collapsed on the road in a pool of blood after the assault. Local women intervened, following which the accused fled the spot.
Her husband, Vipin Kumar, and other family members first took both the injured elderly man and Nisha home before shifting them for medical treatment.
Police said the father-in-law was admitted to the Community Health Centre, while Nisha was later shifted to a private hospital after her condition deteriorated. She subsequently suffered a miscarriage.
Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar Singh said an FIR has been registered against the four accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said efforts are underway to arrest the accused and further investigation into the case is continuing.
