Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his 24-year-old son, Abu Sufiyan, were shot dead by unidentified assailants in West Bengal’s Nadia district while they were returning home in their car, police said. The attack took place near the Nagadi railway gate after the two had travelled from Bethuadahari on Saturday. The attackers allegedly opened fire at their vehicle before assaulting the victims with sharp weapons, NDTV reported.

Anisur Rahman Was Senior Congress Leader

Rahman, 50, was a member of the West Bengal Congress Committee and general secretary of the Nadia District Congress Committee. He was also a senior Congress figure in the Nakashipara area and had held organisational responsibilities in the party for several years. His son, Abu Sufiyan, was 24 years old. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Condemns Killings

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury strongly condemned the killings and described the incident as a serious law-and-order concern. In a social media post, Chowdhury demanded a fair and impartial investigation and sought strict punishment for those responsible. He also questioned the safety of people and the ability to freely engage in political activity in the state.

Police have begun investigating the double killing and are searching for the attackers.
