North 24 Parganas, February 14: Police in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district have arrested two individuals, including a booth-level officer (BLO), in connection with the brutal murder and dismemberment of a local man. The crime, which investigators believe was motivated by an extramarital relationship, has sent shockwaves through the region. The victim, whose identity has been withheld by authorities, was reported missing earlier this week. Following a targeted investigation, police recovered his remains, which had been chopped into multiple pieces and dumped in a secluded area to evade detection.

According to preliminary police reports, the female booth-level officer was allegedly involved in a relationship with the victim. Investigators state that she lured the victim's husband to a specific location under the pretext of official work related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls-a high-pressure administrative exercise currently underway in the state. "The accused used her official position as a cover to call the victim to a meeting," a senior police official stated. The arrests were made after technical surveillance and local intelligence pointed toward the BLO and an accomplice. The incident comes at a time of heightened tension regarding poll-related duties in West Bengal. While the state has seen several reports of administrative stress among booth-level officers in recent months, this case is being treated as a personal criminal matter rather than a result of professional pressure.
