Kohima, May 23: The results of Lok Sabha elections 2019 held in Nagaland will be declared today along with the other states and union territories. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am. The main electoral contest is between the Indian National Congress, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Naga People's Front (NPF), and others. According to the Election Commission, two Lok Sabha seats in Nagaland went to polls in Single on April 11. Amid reports of EVMs malfunctioning and mud sledding between political parties in the state, the elections were mostly peaceful. The apex poll conducting body informed that the average polling percentage recorded in the state was 78.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio-led NPF contested in the single seat by fielding Hayithung Tungoe, while Congress has fielded K L Chishi. Other candidates are NDPP's Tokheho Yepthomi and M M Thromwa Konyak who is running independently.

In the previous 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Naga People's Front secured a vote share of 68.70 per cent defeating Congress by a margin of 38.60 per cent in Nagaland.
