A Dinner That Raised Questions
Recalling the incident, Porwal says: "I met this Russian Girl in Bali, and what started as a casual conversation turned into a lesson I’ll never forget. At first, she asked me to go out for dinner. I had already planned to eat at a vegetarian restaurant, and I made it clear that we’d split the bill. But during dinner, she ordered far more than we needed and then expected me to pay for everything. He says the situation escalated the following day.
According to the vlogger, the Russian girl wanted to visit a theme park the next day and insisted that he book and pay for a taxi instead of using Bali's inexpensive Grab bike service. He also claims she expected him to purchase her theme park ticket. Porwal says this prompted him to ask: "Do you expect me to pay for everything?" He adds: "Her answer surprised me." Porwal stresses that his video is not intended to target women or people of any nationality. He says: "This vlog isn’t about hating women or judging anyone based on nationality. Most people I meet while traveling are kind and genuine. It’s simply a reminder that not everyone you meet has good intentions, and it’s okay to set boundaries instead of feeling pressured to pay.
Travel teaches you a lot about people, and sometimes the most valuable lesson is learning when to say no." He also encouraged viewers to share their own experiences, writing: "If you’ve ever experienced something similar while traveling or dating, share your story in the comments. I’d love to hear your perspective."
The Instagram video has attracted widespread attention, amassing 5.7 million views, 76.3 thousand likes, and over 40 thousand shares. While many viewers supported the creator's message about communicating financial expectations and setting personal boundaries, others debated whether the incident reflected an attempted scam or simply differing expectations during a social outing.
