World's First Vagina Museum Opens in London Dedicated to Gynaecological Anatomy

The world's first museum dedicated to the vagina has opened this weekend after a public fundraising drive. Vagina Museum opened on Saturday in Camden, northwest London, after a crowdfunding campaign which raised almost $62,000. The Vagina Museum aims at educating visitors about vulvas and vaginas thus challenging the taboo and stigma surrounding them. CNN quoted Zoe Williams, development and marketing manager of Vagina Museum as saying, "As this is the world's first bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas and the gynaecological anatomy, we didn't quite know what to expect in terms of interest, and were delighted with the £50,000 we raised." Vagina Museum Opens in London:

Florence Schechter, a science YouTuber, founded the museum in 2017 after understanding that there is no physical vagina museum in the world, while there is one dedicated to male genitalia in Iceland. She said, "This is a part of the body that should be celebrated. The museum is a fantastic way to spread the message that there is nothing shameful or offensive about vaginas and vulvas."

Celebration of Vulva Diversity:

The museum is backed by The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, whose vice president Alison Wright said, "We believe the museum will be a huge asset to help people to understand women's health and to talk about it more openly." The first exhibition opened at the Vagina Museum on November 16 and will be there until the end of February. Titled 'Muff Busters: Vagina Myths and How To Fight Them' the exhibition will be about gynaecological anatomy other than cleanliness, appearance, periods, sex and contraception. The exhibition is also available to view online.
