That's It! End of Day 1. Conditions were favourable for batting more than expected and an inexperienced England bowling attack without Gus Atkinson looked pedestrian. They didn't get the areas right at the right time and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill utilised it well scoring centuries. The later one is still unbeaten with Rishabh Pant at the other end and the duo will look towards a bigger total on Day 2. The Day 1 had England toiling hard and India on the top.

20 Jun, 22:53 (IST)

Fifty! Despite the poor run of form of Rishabh Pant in the IPL, he has come back strong in Test cricket as he had a solid start with a half-century. He has looked like his natural where he has taken on the bowlers and scored boundaries whenever he has wanted to. Now he completes his half-century and doesn't look like stopping soon.

20 Jun, 22:16 (IST)

Century! The new era has well and truly begun for India. It is Shubman Gill now who stamps his authority as a captain leading from the front with the bat. Batted with superb control and then cruised through to reach his century in style. He has look calm and focused throughout. The hunger has been visible. He will look to go big here.

20 Jun, 21:37 (IST)

After the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant has consolidated the innings along with Shubman Gill. The duo has looked untroubled through the entirety and the conditions have been favourable for batting too. They are putting the England bowlers to some hard work here.

20 Jun, 20:39 (IST)

Out! Finaly a breakthrough for England and the captain brings it just after the Tea break. Ben Stokes brings out his effort ball and it straightens off the deck, knocking over Yashasvi Jaiswal's stumps. The set batter departs and it is an important breakthrough for England. They need more here to have India under pressure.  Jaiswal b Stokes 101(159).

20 Jun, 20:13 (IST)

A bizarre moment for England as India get awarded five penalty runs. It was supposed to be a wicket chance as Ben Stokes made Yashasvi Jaiswal nick one to the slip cordon but the ball fell short and Harry Brook palmed it off to the helmet kept behind the wicketkeeper. As a result the Umpire awarded five runs to the visitors. With it, the Tea break is called and India dominate the second session without losing any wickets.

20 Jun, 20:03 (IST)

Century! First one in England. Yashasvi Jaiswal has arrived in England! Classy and confident! The new era for India well and truly begins with this special century from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Looked confident from the very start and despite one or two occasions have looked comfortable throughout. Dominantly gets to his century even after a cramp on his right hand and celebrates with joy. First of potentially many in England.

20 Jun, 19:58 (IST)

Oops! Looks like Jaiswal is struggling with his hands. He called the physio earlier and got an ice-pack on the right arm while the physio massaged the left. He took a break again in the next over and looks like will try his best to continue here. Definitely in discomfort.

20 Jun, 19:33 (IST)

Shubman Gill has come on to bat and showed that he is there to lead from the front as a captain. Looked solid throughout, played some glorious shots and made sure that India go to a strong place. This is his first half-century overseas since that 91 in Brisbane, 2021. Gill look determined and will look to go as big as he can here. Shubman becomes ninth Indian to hit a 50+ score in maiden innings as Test captain and youngest of all nine to do so.

20 Jun, 18:52 (IST)

Yashasvi Jaiswal starts his stint in England positively just like he did in Australia. Solid start from him to the innings. Looked comfortable throughout, played some glorious shots and never went too passive for comfort. He now reaches his half-century although he is surely aiming much higher than that.

20 Jun, 18:41 (IST)

Oh! England missed a huge opportunity there. Brydon Carse went very full and struck the boot of Yashasvi Jaiswal before the bat came down. Only it was called a no ball and it didn't matter in the end. If it was not a no ball, Jaiswal would be a goner. England will be disappointed here.

20 Jun, 18:25 (IST)

Good start for India after the break. They have negotiated the tough period well and Shubman Gill has looked very fine against all bowlers. He has defended in a solid way and is gradually leaning into the shots as well. He will look to make it big in his first time as captain.

20 Jun, 17:32 (IST)

Out! Duck for Sai Sudharsan. Not the ideal debut. Ben Stokes was sensing the tentativeness in him and attacking his legside with multiple leg slips in. Sai Sudharsan went for the glance and got a nick which was taken well by Jamie Smith. Stokes' plan worked and they make a small comeback towards the end of the session and the Umpires call the end of the first session and players go to the lunch break, England will look to break the crack open in the next session. Sai Sudharsan c Jamie Smith b Stokes 0(4).

20 Jun, 17:25 (IST)

Out! First breakthrough for England and the long-standing opening partnership falls. Brydon Carse floats the ball outside off, KL Rahul was nailing the drives through off-side and went for it again, only to take an edge and go the slip into the hands of Joe Root, who took a comfortable catch. Relief for Ben Stokes as he can now find an opening.  Rahul c Root b Brydon Carse 42(78).

20 Jun, 17:05 (IST)

India have found some good momentum early in the innings, accumulating a partnership of more than 50 runs in just 20 overs. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kl Rahul have looked comfortable and the conditions have been kind to them as they could find boundaries at ease. Ben Stokes will want a wicket here soon as he got drived twice by KL Rahul.

20 Jun, 16:26 (IST)

Poor call from Ben Stokes as England burn a review. Josh Tongue made a ball swing in from round the wicket and it was full enough to hit Yashasvi Jaiswal on the pads. Despite the angle Stokes went for the DRS but the replay clearly showed it was comfortably going down the leg. England waste a review early.

20 Jun, 16:14 (IST)

India has successfully survived the first ten overs without losing any wickets but the last five overs has been probing from England where Chris Woakes has tried to set the batters and Brydon Carse has been quick. Carse also hit Jaiswal on the ribs with the sharp back of length delivery.

20 Jun, 15:46 (IST)

Good start for India given the ball has not done a lot and Yashasvi Jaiswal found the middle of the bat few times including two boundaries which helped India get going. KL Rahul and Jaiswal both will look to give India a steady start and not fall in traps.
