Day 3 has come to an end, and Australia have gained a commanding position in the Test, with Sri Lanka nine down in their second innings. Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis have ensured that the hosts manage to take the lead and take the match into Day 4. For, Australia Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon were the star bowlers, picking seven wickets between them.

Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis have played a solid knock, with the pair adding 50 runs in 84 balls. Both veteran players have ensured Sri Lanka manage to take the contest into Day 4. Australia have brought back their lead pacer Mitchell Starc into the attack, in hopes of picking a wicket or two before the end of play.

Angelo Mathews is playing a stellar knock and has kept Sri Lanka in the hunt with his half-century. Kusal Mendis along with Mathews have stopped the bleeding for the home side and ensured that they take the lead. Despite a uncomfortable start, Mathews has slowly progressed his innings with ease.

Out! Its Matthew Kuhnemann again. Just when Sri Lanka was looking to settle in the game and form a partnership, another opener -  Dhimuth Karunaratne departs. A tossed up delivery was just outside off, Dhimuth looks to drive through cover but it goes through to the keeper. Oh there's a clear spike on UltraEdge. Karunaratne is dismissed for 14 in his final Test innings. He was dismissed early in th first innings and now failed to coverup with the bog score as Matthew Kuhnemann provides early break. skids through at pace, pins Nissanka in the crease and then ricohets off the pad to the off-stump. That it! After Beau Westers wicket, Sri Lanka wrapped up the opposition quickly. Prabath Jayasuriya picks up five wickets and Ramesh Mendis, making his return picked up final two wickets as visitors now has a modest 15- run lead in the first innings. Lunch break taken.

Despite losing wickets early on day3, the Australia national cricket team crosses the magic figure of 400. the lead is now nearing 150.  Beau Wester now taking over the responsibilities for scoring and if it exceeds 200-mark it could be a match won already for the Aussies.

Sri Lanka started the Day batting with a scoreline of 229/9. The last wicket tried to hold for some time, before getting bundled for 257. Then came the Australian batters. Opener Travis Head and in at three-batter Marnus Labuschagne got out for some cheap runs, as Australia suffered initial shocks at 37/2. After some time Usman Khwaja also departed for 36, making the scoreline 91/3. But since then Steve Smith and Alex Carey held the innings tight, and Australia posted 330/3 at the end of the second day of SL vs AUS 2nd Test.

As Australia leads by 73 runs, with two set batsmen controlling the game, the hosts appear to fumble. However, if they can pick some early wickets in the first session of Day 3 of the SL vs AUS 2nd Test, they can still make a memorable comeback and hope the level the series at the Galle International Stadium in the long run.
