Indian shooter Heena Sidhu has won the medal in Women's 25m Pistol finals on the day six of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 28-year-old Ludhiana shooter gave a phenomenal performance at Belmont Shooting Centre on April 10. Meanwhile, another Indian shooter Annu Singh failed to achieve a podium finish and had to be content with the sixth place standings. With this latest addition, India's medal tally moves to a total of 20 including 11 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. India firmly occupies the third position in the CWG 2018 medal table.

Heena Sidhu's gold medal comes after a disappointing show by defending silver-medallist Gagan Narang finished at a lowly seventh place while debutant Chain Singh finished fourth as Indian shooters ended without a medal in the men's 50m rifle prone event of the 21st Commonwealth Games. Nevertheless, Heena's yellow medal eclipsed past all disappointments in the Indian shooting camp.

A former world number one in air pistol Heena Sidhu did not quite have a great run in Women's 25m Pistol Qualification Precision by barely making it to the finals, which was topped by Annu Singh. However, Heena proved her mettle where it mattered the most. She defeated Australia's Elena Galiabovitch and Malaysia's Alia Sazana Azahari who bagged silver and bronze respectively.

“These Games are important — CWG and Asian Games give you a heads up to Olympics. It’s a very important year and the biggest challenge for me is the World Championship,” Heena had told PTI on her participation in the important multi-sport event.

Heena Sidhu had also won the silver medal in women's 10m air pistol finals in which her 16-year-old counterpart from India, Manu Bhaker had won the gold medal. Jitu Rai had also won the gold medal in men's 10m air pistol making it three gold for Indian shooting contingent.
