Bengaluru, September 1: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday successfully performed the final and fifth Lunar bound orbit manoeuvre for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft. The manoeuvre began at 6:21 pm. It was carried out using the onboard propulsion system. The manoeuvre lasted for 52 seconds. The spacecraft achieved the orbit 119 km x 127 km. Chandrayaan 2 Gets Closer to Moon by Completing Third Lunar Bound Orbit Maneuver, to Land on Moon in Next 11 Days.

The ISRO confirmed that all spacecraft parameters are normal. The next operation to separate Vikram Lander from Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter is scheduled on September 2. It will take place between 12:25 pm and 1:45 pm on Monday. After this, only two deorbit manoeuvre of Vikram Lander will be left. These manoeuvres will prepare the spacecraft for its landing in the south polar region of the moon. Chandrayaan 2 Enters Fourth Lunar Orbit; ISRO Carries Out Manoeuvre Using Onboard Propulsion System.

Earlier on August 30, the fourth Lunar Bound orbit manoeuvre for Chandrayaan-2 was carried out. On August 26, the space agency, released images of the lunar surface captured by Chandrayaan 2. The photos were taken by Terrain Mapping Camera-2 (TMC2) of the spacecraft on August 23 at an altitude of about 4,375 km. Chandrayaan-2 Set to Enter Third Lunar Orbit on August 28, Vikram Lander to Separate From Orbiter on September 2.

The Chandrayaan 2 entered the lunar orbit on August 20. The spacecraft will make a soft landing on the lunar surface on September 7. With the success of this mission, India will become the fourth country to perform a soft landing on the lunar surface after the United States, Russia and China.
