A 28-year-old Indian man, Anshul Kuncha, was shot dead in North Philadelphia shortly after delivering a pizza order to a housing complex in the early hours of Friday. The incident occurred around 12:30 am at the Raymond Rosen Homes housing complex on Edgeley Street.
According to police, Kuncha had successfully delivered the pizzas before he was shot in the head outside the building. Investigators later discovered that the apartment listed in the delivery order was a vacant unit, raising suspicions that the order may have been used to lure the victim to the location.
Victim Found With Gunshot Wound to the Head
Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department said officers found Kuncha lying on the ground with a severe head injury. Kuncha was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified him through pizza boxes recovered at the scene and later confirmed that he worked for Pete's Pizza.
Evidence Suggests Shooter Was Standing Very Close
Investigators recovered three spent shell casings just inches from where Kuncha's body was found. "Which is an indication that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to the victim," Small said. Who Was Dave Fiji? Kuncha's vehicle was found nearby with a pizza warmer still inside. Inside the vacant apartment, officers discovered three pizza boxes and a delivery bag that appeared untouched, indicating that the delivery had been completed before the shooting took place.
Surveillance Footage Shows Two Individuals Following Victim
Police said surveillance cameras operated by the Philadelphia Housing Authority captured portions of the incident, although the actual shooting was not recorded.
The footage reportedly shows two individuals wearing dark clothing following Kuncha before the attack. One of the individuals appeared to be carrying a dark backpack.
Authorities have not made any arrests so far, but investigators are pursuing a key lead. "We do have the phone number that made that pizza delivery," Small said.
