Police in Twin Falls, Idaho, have released video footage showing the chaotic moments during a mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant that left three people dead and seven others injured. Authorities praised an employee from a nearby store who confronted the gunman outdoors and helped slow him down as police closed in.

The shooting took place last weekend when 24-year-old Chad Williams opened fire at the newly opened In-N-Out Burger. Police said 10 people were shot at locations including inside the restaurant, outside the premises, on a busy nearby road and at a car charging station in a visitors centre parking lot. Williams later died by suicide.

Police Praise Man Who Confronted Gunman

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the actions of a young man who encountered Williams on a nearby walking trail may have prevented further loss of life. Idaho Shooting: Multiple Dead, Including Suspected Gunman, in Twin Falls In-N-Out Burger Incident .

According to police video, several employees from nearby businesses fled toward the trail as the shooting unfolded. When Williams followed them, he encountered two people, including one man who kept his hands raised while speaking to him.

Police said the man's actions distracted the gunman and gave others additional time to escape. US Store Shooting: Gujarati Woman Battles for Life After Bullet Rips Through Jaw; Husband Held in Accidental Shooting Case.

'To that young man, you are a hero,' Hicks said, praising his courage and composure. He added that the man's actions likely gave others enough time to get away from danger.

The man was later identified as Braxton Steube, who said he had fled a Dick's Sporting Goods store before encountering Williams.

Gunman Fired At Drive-Thru Window Four Times

The newly released footage provided additional details about how the attack unfolded. Police said Williams approached the In-N-Out drive-thru window four separate times and opened fire, killing an employee.

The gunman also exchanged gunfire with an off-duty state trooper who was inside the restaurant. The officer helped direct employees out of the building while attempting to stop Williams.

Former police officer A.J. James also ran toward the sound of gunfire and confronted the shooter. James was wounded during the confrontation.

Police Chief Hicks praised the off-duty officer for acting 'heroically and unbelievably' while trying to slow the gunman. Authorities have not released the officer's name.

An armed civilian had also previously been credited with firing back at Williams and diverting him away from the restaurant.

Survivor Says Gunman Appeared To Tear Up

Steube described his encounter with Williams on the walking trail, saying he tried to persuade the gunman not to hurt anyone.

'I have a family. You don't have to do this,' Steube recalled telling Williams.

According to Steube, the gunman appeared to become emotional before telling him to get away. Williams then fired at Steube but missed.

Williams subsequently killed himself as police moved in. His body was later found near a canyon.

Three People Killed In Idaho Shooting

Authorities identified the three victims as Ashley Garibay, 23, of Stockton, California; Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City; and Christopher Claunch, 59, of Hagerman, Idaho.

Police said they have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.

'What happened here was violent, frightening and deeply traumatic,' Hicks said, describing the incident as a tragedy that turned what should have been a normal Saturday afternoon into a scene of chaos, fear and loss.

The Twin Falls In-N-Out Burger had opened in July as part of the chain's expansion into Idaho. Twin Falls is located about 130 miles southeast of Boise, the state capital.
