An industrial equipment manufacturer in Ohio has taken legal action against a consumer over an online rating, filing a defamation complaint after a local resident left a one-star review on Google. Starr Manufacturing Inc., a family-owned business based in Vienna, Ohio, filed the lawsuit against Columbus resident Julie Watson in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas. The legal filing alleges that the negative review contained fabricated claims that caused substantial damage to the company’s standing.

Allegations of Defamation and Financial Harm

According to court documents, Starr Manufacturing asserts that Watson “falsely and maliciously made claims” regarding quality control failures across multiple customer projects. Simi Valley High School Football Coach Adam Brubaker Fired After Kicking Ball Into Player's Private Parts, Video Surfaces.

The disputed online review claimed the firm suffered from poor oversight and relied on subpar subcontractors, leading to issues with equipment installation. The review concluded with a recommendation to avoid doing business with the company. So what did Julie Watson write in her review? On Google maps review, Julie Watson wrote, "This company’s work has faced a host of quality control issues lately owing to contracting with shoddy subs, resulting in time consuming field updates required on multiple well pad sites to fix issues like bolts and fasteners being connected improperly or not screwed down tightly enough, and lack of oversight to identify where the breaches even occurred with the subs".

She further said that she can provide locations and names of additional people to contact in order to confirm recent production and quality failures. Meanwhile, the plaintiff argues that these public assertions resulted in significant reputational harm and monetary damages. Furthermore, the company contends that court intervention is necessary to prevent the continued publication of the statements, seeking monetary relief exceeding USD 25,000 alongside legal and court fees. Donald Trump Reacts to US-Canada Trade Talks Collapse, Says ‘Ottawa Wants Benefits of Being a State’.

Company Claims Review Stemmed From Personal Vendetta

Legal representatives for Starr Manufacturing maintain that the dispute goes beyond standard consumer feedback. Attorney Thomas Nader stated that Watson has never been a client or customer of the manufacturing firm. "The defendant is not a customer of Starr Manufacturing and has never been a customer of Starr Manufacturing,” Nader said to People. "This was the result of a personal relationship between the defendant and an employee of Starr Manufacturing. This is not about Starr Manufacturing being upset about a bad review from a customer. This is a personal vendetta," he added. Legal counsel for the defense or a direct response from Watson has not been publicly detailed as the litigation moves forward in Trumbull County.
