Rome, March 28: Swiss food major Nestlé has confirmed that a truck transporting more than 4,00,000 units of its KitKat products has been stolen during transit in Europe. The shipment, weighing approximately 12 tonnes, went missing last week while en route between production and distribution centres, raising concerns about potential supply disruptions ahead of the Easter season.

In a statement to AFP, the company said the vehicle had departed from central Italy and was heading toward Poland, with planned distribution across multiple European markets. The exact location of the theft has not been disclosed, and both the truck and its cargo remain unaccounted for. Robbery Bid Caught on Camera in Italy: Armed Robbers Attack Cash-in-Transit Van With Explosives on Highway, Video Surfaces.

KitKat Heist in Europe: Investigation Underway

Nestlé said it is working closely with local law enforcement agencies and logistics partners to trace the missing shipment. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine how and where the theft occurred during transit. The company has not provided further operational details but indicated that efforts are ongoing to recover the goods and identify those responsible.

Potential Impact on Retail Supply

The company acknowledged that the theft could affect product availability in some markets. With Easter approaching, a peak period for chocolate sales, retailers may experience temporary shortages of KitKat products. Nestlé warned that consumers could face difficulty finding certain items if the missing stock is not recovered in time. The company also cautioned that the stolen products could reappear in unofficial or unauthorised sales channels across Europe. To address this, it has highlighted the use of batch codes embedded in each product.

According to Nestlé, these codes can help identify whether a product belongs to the stolen shipment. Retailers and distributors have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious inventory.
