The Philippines' Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the operations of a jeepney for 30 days after a viral video allegedly showed a passenger being thrown from the moving vehicle due to reckless driving.

The suspended jeepney, bearing plate number APA-4905, was also issued a show cause order (SCO), directing its operator to explain why its certificate of public convenience should not be suspended or revoked.

According to the LTFRB, the operator may have violated transport regulations by failing to provide safe, reliable and convenient public transportation services and by employing a reckless driver. Thailand: 10 Killed, Many Injured As 11-Year-Old Driver Crashes Truck Into Buddhist Monks; Disturbing Video Surfaces.

The agency also ordered the operator to surrender the vehicle's license plate, ensure the driver undergoes a mandatory drug test and road safety seminar, and present the jeepney for a roadworthiness inspection. British Woman Arrested After Boyfriend’s Death in Thailand; Police Say They Smoked Cannabis Before Incident.

The incident occurred on June 23, when the jeepney was travelling towards Cubao, Quezon City. Dashcam footage that later went viral allegedly showed a passenger being thrown out of the vehicle during the journey.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza warned public utility vehicle drivers to prioritise passenger safety, saying public transport vehicles are not meant for racing on public roads.

"We will not tolerate this kind of reckless behavior of the driver and will make sure that he will learn his lesson from this incident," Mendoza said.

The LTFRB has scheduled a hearing on July 14, 2026, during which it will also determine whether the injured passenger received appropriate assistance. The agency warned that failure to comply with the show cause order could result in an  penalty of PHP 5,000 and revocation of the jeepney's franchise.
