Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (PTI) The BJP Mahila Morcha on Tuesday demanded dismissal of Odisha's agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy over his alleged derogatory remarks against women.

"As Maharathy made derogatory remarks against women, the Chief Minister (Naveen Patnaik) should dismiss him from the council of ministers immediately," Pravati Parida, the president of BJP's Odisha unit Mahila Morcha said.

A purported video of the minister in which he is seen making the alleged remarks against women has gone viral.

"The remarks of Maharathy is not acceptable in the civil society. He is considered close to the chief minister," Parida said.

She said if Patnaik does not sack Maharathy from the ministry, the BJP will launch a statewide agitation over the issue.

Maharathy was not immediately available for comment.
