New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) In a novel protest, Congress councillors held "begging bowls" during the proceedings of the BJP-led NDMC House on Thursday and sought funds for development work in their areas.

Mukesh Goel, leader of Congress in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, and other councillors stepped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans in front of Mayor Avtar Singh and Municipal Commissioner Varsha Joshi.

Goel, in a statement issued later, claimed that funds were not available with councillors for carrying out development work in their wards.

He said the ruling BJP should think of sources to generate revenue, instead of indulging in blame game.

Attacking the AAP government, the Congress leader said the current dispensation thinks about pilgrims and women commuters but it is "not releasing" funds due to the civic bodies.
