Kolkata, Jul 10 (PTI) The West Bengal government has set a 30-day deadline for completing police verification, including medical examination, of candidates recommended for appointment, a senior official said on Thursday.

The directive, issued on Wednesday, follows concerns over substantial delays in the processing of police and medical verification reports during recruitment, which have in turn delayed the issuance of appointment letters and commencement of service.

"This led to corresponding delays in the issuance of appointment letters and commencement of service," an official said.

"Police verification must be completed within 30 days. Any physical verification, if required, must also be completed within this time frame," the order said.

It also mandates that candidates must be promptly informed — via email, website notifications, and postal communication — about the next steps after their names are recommended by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) or any other recruiting authority.

This includes instructions for undergoing medical and police verification, the order said.

Necessary instructions have been sent to each department, the official said.
