Patna (Bihar) [India], July 15 (ANI): Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey inaugurated three new health facilities at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS) hospital in the state capital Patna on Monday.

He also inaugurated the waiting hall worth Rs 5 crore from the late Sushil Modi 'Vikas Nidhi' fund. This waiting hall will provide facilities to the family members of the patients who are operating at IGIMS.

Apart from that, two more facilities were also inaugurated: the Duchenne muscular dystrophy ward and the ICU for cancer patients.

Speaking to reporters, the health minister said, "Our dream is to make IGIMS the best hospital in east India where patients from different states can get treatment. We are continuously making efforts to improve medical facilities."

"Today, three medical facilities were inaugurated. A six-ward ICU was opened at the state cancer institute. ICU wards are very much required for patients battling with cancer."

Explaining about Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) disorder, Pandey said, "Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a condition that causes muscle weakness in children that quickly gets worse with time. Symptoms usually begin by the age of 4-5 years. We have opened a six-bed ward for Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients to give primary treatment and consultation to children suffering from this serious disorder. Bihar is the first state in the entire country to provide financial aid of Rs 6 lakh to these children. Earlier, patients had to go outside the state for its treatment but now they can get full medical support in the state."

Remembering the late Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi's contribution, he said, "Today, we inaugurated a waiting hall worth Rs 5 crore from his 'Vikas Nidhi' fund. On this occasion, we remembered our leader, who rendered his service during his tenure. He was not among us today but his work always shows us the path to move forward."
