Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 31 (ANI): A 22-year-old sales executive was arrested for allegedly killing a woman in Khed taluka, Pune district, on the night of July 28, said the police.

The Crime Branch Unit of the Pune Rural Police arrested accused Aviraj Kharat in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old woman in Pune.

The victim, who worked at a private company in Pimpri Chinchwad, had rejected Kharat's marriage proposal.

As per the police, the crime occurred near her rented accommodation in Pune city's Ambethan village, where Kharat slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times in the stomach.

He was caught by the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch team within 12 hours of the incident, near Karad on the Pune-Bengaluru highway.

According to the police, Kharat and the victim were classmates during their engineering diploma course. The victim hails from the Valva Tehsil in Sangli district. The victim's parents had opposed their relationship.

Sharing details about the incident, police said that the victim's roommate reported that Kharat tried to forcibly enter their room around 11 pm on July 28 but was stopped.

He then snatched the victim's cellphone and asked her to come out for a conversation.

The roommate and others waited outside, but when Kharat was seen running away, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

The victim was taken to a nearby private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Subsequently, a case was registered under sections 103 (1) for murder and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the BNS. (ANI)
