Mumbai, May 7 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday recorded statements of alleged cricket bookie Sonu Jalan and businessman Mayuresh Raut who have levelled allegations against former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Jalan recently wrote a letter to Maharashtra Director General of Police alleging that Singh and some other police officials had extorted Rs 3.45 crore from him.

Raut alleged earlier this week that inspector Rajkumar Kothmire of Thane police and former police officer Pradeep Sharma harassed him in 2017 at Singh's behest and took away two of his luxury cars.

Both Jalan and Raut on Friday visited the NIA office in South Mumbai.

The NIA is already probing the case related to a bomb scare near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house and the subsequent suspicious death of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

While leaving the Central agency's office, Raut told mediapersons that he was getting threat calls and was going to meet Vasai Virar and Mira Bhayander Police Commissioner and ask for police protection.

Police did not register a case of car theft on his complaint despite a court order, he claimed.

He was afraid that the cars could be used for crime, as in Hiran's case, he had said earlier.

Hiran, a Thane-based businessman, was found dead in a creek on March 5. He had claimed earlier that the SUV with explosives found near Ambani's house had been stolen from his possession.
