Bathinda (Punjab) [India], June 4 (ANI): As the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is leading on the Bathinda seat, party leader and candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal thanked the party workers, saying that the victory belongs to the people of the constituency.

"I want to thank my party workers who worked hard day and night. This victory belongs to the people of Bathinda who gave me an opportunity to serve them", Badal said while speaking to reporters in Punjab's Bathinda.

As per the latest trends shown by the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 6:30 pm, party candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal is leading by over 49,000 votes while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress candidates, Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu are trailing behind.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also trailing by a significant number of votes.

Meanwhile, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal also extended gratitude towards the party workers stating, "I accept the verdict of the people of Punjab. I want to thank every party worker who worked hard during the scorching summer. From the depths of my heart, I want to thank them all".

As per the latest trends by the ECI at 6:30 pm, the Congress is leading on seven seats while the AAP was ahead on three seats in Punjab.

Vote counting in Punjab is still underway with 13 seats up for grabs. Polling in the state was held in a single phase on June 1.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) suffered a significant dent from the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as the latest trends show it leading on 294 seats, with the INDIA bloc being ahead on 232 seats, as per the ECI.

The BJP-led NDA appears far from its target of "400 paar" with the BJP falling behind a simple majority in Lok Sabha, according to the latest trends.

The BJP had won a majority on its own in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls. It won 282 seats in 2014 and improved its tally to 303 seats in 2019 elections. The BJP had set a target of winning 370 seats in the 2024 general elections.

The BJP-led NDA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fought Lok Sabha elections for a third straight term in office.
