Chandigarh, Jul 22 (PTI) Punjab on Wednesday recorded 414 novel coronavirus cases, its largest single-day spike in infections, bringing the tally to 11,301, according to a medical bulletin.

Besides, six more people succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 269, the bulletin said.

Two new fatalities were reported in Jalandhar and one each in Gurdaspur Ludhiana, Patiala and Hoshiarpur, it said.

A total of 252 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday after recovering from the infection. So far 7,641 people have been cured of the infection.

There are 3,391 active COVID-19 cases in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin.

Punjab continued to witness a surge in the number of fresh coronavirus cases in the state with a daily addition of 300-400 cases for the past several days.

Earlier, the state had witnessed the biggest single-day jump of 411 cases on July 20.

Eighty-one fresh cases were reported in Hoshiarpur, followed by 73 in Ludhiana, 50 in Patiala, 41 in Jalandhar, 30 in Mohali, 25 in Fazilka, 20 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 17 in Faridkot, 16 in Sangrur, 14 in Amritsar, eight each in SBS Nagar and Kapurthala, seven in Tarn Taran, five each in Barnala and Mansa, four in Moga, three each in Rupnagar and Ferozepur, two in Muktsar and one each in Bathinda and Gurdaspur.

Seven policemen in Fazilka, two in Amritsar and one each in Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran were among the new cases.

Ludhiana continued to top the COVID-19 tally with 2,059 cases, followed by 1,772 in Jalandhar, 1,362 in Amritsar,  1,131 in Patiala, 844 in Sangrur, 605 in Mohali , 323 in Gurdaspur, 291 in Pathankot, 370 in Hoshiarpur, 274 in SBS Nagar, 244 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 242 in Tarn Taran, 237 in Ferozepur, 229 each in Faridkot and Moga, 200 in Bathinda, 186 in Muktsar,  180 in Rupnagar, 179 in Fazilka, 169 in Kapurthala, 89 in Barnala and 86 in Mansa, as per the bulletin.

Twelve patients are critical and are on ventilator support while 74 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said.
