Agartala (Tripura) [India], October 26 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the homes of three potters in Kumar Para, a locality renowned for its skilled artisans who create earthen lamps, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated on Saturday.

The visit coincides with the potters ramping up production ahead of Deepawali, a period when traditional earthen lamps are in high demand, the statement added.

During his visit, CM Saha encouraged the potters and purchased lamps for his own Deepawali celebrations, emphasising the importance of supporting local artisans. He praised their craftsmanship and noted that the use of new machinery has enhanced both the beauty and precision of their work.

CM Saha's support for these artisans aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of promoting self-reliance and local industry.

"Modi ji repeatedly emphasises the importance of self-reliance. In Tripura, we have introduced various initiatives to promote self-sufficiency. I visit Kumar Para every year, and it is inspiring to see how these artisans are evolving their craft with new technology," said the Chief Minister.

This focus on promoting local crafts is also in line with the goals of the Prime Minister's Vishwakarma Yojana, which was recently discussed in Tripura. The Chief Minister acknowledged the invaluable contributions of unorganised workers to both the rural economy and the nation's GDP.

As Deepawali approaches, Saha conveyed his best wishes to the artisans and the people of Tripura, reaffirming his commitment to the vision of "One Tripura, One India, One Great India."

His visit has not only boosted morale among the artisans but also reinforced the importance of supporting local industries to build a self-reliant India. (ANI)
