On Saturday, a day before she ended her life, Gupta reached to Govindpuri police station suicide at around 10-11 pm where she was attended by a lady constable, police said.

She told the police that her husband has left his house and blocked her mobile number. She requested the constable to trace her husband, they said.

A call was made to her husband who said he has left his house willingly and don not want to stay with her wife anymore, a senior police officer said.

When the police official asked her to file a complaint, the woman denied. After that, the lady constable dropped her to her home, the officer said.

However, On Sunday, a PCR call was received at Govindpuri police station about a woman hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house, she said.

Subsequently, an enquiry was initiated in the matter, she added.

"The statement of victim's father Girish Chand was recorded by the SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate). From the contents of the statements, a case under section 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 304 B (dowry death) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Monday," the police officer said.

Subsequently, the woman's husband, Anupam Gupta, was arrested.

Further investigation in the case is in progress, police said.

Since the period of the marriage was less then seven years, the enquiry in the case was conducted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kalkaji, they said.

The Body of the deceased was handed over to her parents after post-mortem, police said.
