Plan to Clean Maharashtra Forts Under MNREGA, EGS: Minister

Nagpur, Jul 13 (PTI) Forts in Maharashtra will be cleaned through the MNREGA and the state's Employment Guarantee Scheme in association with the Archaeology department, Tourism and Employment Guarantee Scheme Minister Jaykumar Rawal said today.
He said that the special campaign would generate employment and also encourage tourism.
The government resolution in this regard would be issued soon, Rawal said.
He chaired a meeting of senior officials, including Tourism department principal secretary Nitin Gadre, Employment Guarantee Scheme department secretary Eknath Davle, MNREGA commissioner ASR Naik, state Archaeology department director Tejas Garge and tourism deputy secretary Sanjay Bhandarkar, here today.
Rawal said that the forts would be cleaned in about 100 days, under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, as part of the campaign and trees would be planted as well as ponds cleaned to beautify these forts.
The state has about 450 forts.
