Two police officers were arrested Saturday for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh as extortion money from a truck driver in Bihar's Gaya district.
Gaya, Jul 13 (PTI) Two police officers were arrested Saturday for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh as extortion money from a truck driver in Bihar's Gaya district.
Barachatti police station sub-inspectors (SIs) Harendra Singh and Dharmendra Kumar were suspended from duty and produced in the Sherghati sub-divisional court, which remanded them to judicial custody, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajiv Mishra said.
As per the FIR lodged by the driver, the accused had demanded Rs 1 lakh for releasing the over-loaded truck carrying iron rods, at Suryamandal integrated checkpost on the Grand Trunk road, Mishra said.
Police had conducted test identification (TI) parade of all the policemen posted at Barachatti police station during which the complainant identified Singh and Kumar as the two officers who tried to extort him.
