The victim, identified as Najamunnisa Begum, was in B.T. Patil Nagar when the animal suddenly approached and knocked her down. She later died while undergoing treatment.
According to reports, Begum was standing in the compound of her house when the monkey suddenly attacked her. CCTV footage shows the animal moving towards her before she was pushed and fell to the ground. Begum suffered serious injuries in the fall and was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Although she initially appeared to be recovering, her condition later deteriorated and she died the following day while undergoing treatment. The incident was recorded by a CCTV camera installed outside the house. The footage, which shows the monkey attacking and knocking Begum down, has since circulated widely on social media. According to reports, Begum’s daughter also rushed outside after the attack to help her mother. The monkey allegedly moved towards her as well before leaving the area.
The CCTV video has drawn attention to reports of increasing monkey-related incidents in residential areas. Recent reports from other parts of India have also involved elderly women being injured or killed while trying to escape or fend off monkeys.
The Koppal incident comes amid several reported cases of monkey-related deaths involving elderly women. On September 10, a 55-year-old woman in Aligarh reportedly died after falling from a rooftop while trying to escape monkeys. In Shimla, a woman also died on September 14 after reportedly falling from a rooftop following a monkey attack. Earlier this year, a 65-year-old woman in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, reportedly died after losing her balance while trying to flee a group of monkeys. Authorities have not publicly provided further details about action concerning the animal involved in the Koppal incident in the reports reviewed.
