Monalisa Bhosle Birth Certificate Case: MP High Court Quashes Order Showing Mahakumbh Viral Girl As Minor

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has set aside the March 31, 2026 order that corrected Mahakumbh viral girl Monalisa Bhosle's date of birth on her father's plea, citing violation of natural justice. The order had shown her as a minor at the time of her marriage to Farman Khan.

Monalisa Bhosle, the girl who went viral after a photo of her at the Mahakumbh 2025 fair, has received a major relief from the Madhya Pradesh High Court in the dispute over her age. The court has set aside the March 31, 2026 order of the Chief Municipal Officer, Maheshwar, District Khargone, which had corrected her date of birth and cancelled the earlier birth certificate entry dated 05.06.2025, on an application filed by her father. The bench held that Monalisa, listed as Petitioner no. 1, was never given notice of her father's application, which violated the principle of natural justice. With the order quashed, the birth certificate obtained by her father to show her as a minor stands cancelled.

The ruling is significant as her age at the time of marriage lies at the centre of the legal battle between Monalisa and her father.

What Did The Court Say

The correction had been made under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, read with Rule 11 of the Madhya Pradesh Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2024, LiveLaw reported. The High Court found that the order was passed without hearing Monalisa, who was directly affected by it, and therefore could not stand. Monalisa Bhosle Gets Married: Kumbh Mela Viral Sensation Ties the Knot With Boyfriend Furman Khan at Kerala’s Nayanar Temple.

The order was challenged by Monalisa and her husband, Farman Khan, who had approached the High Court in May 2026.

How The Dispute Began

Monalisa married Farman Khan, her co-actor, who is a Muslim. Her father opposed the marriage and claimed she was a minor at the time, seeking to have it declared null and void. Madhya Pradesh police also registered a case of 'love jihad' and kidnapping against her husband. ‘The Diary of Manipur’: Mahakumbh Viral Sensation Monalisa Bhosle Begins Uttarakhand Shoot for Bollywood Debut Film, Shares First Look and Behind-the-Scenes Moments (Watch Video).

Petitioners' Argument In High Court

In their petition, Monalisa and Khan alleged that her father had submitted a forged birth record to portray her as a minor. They also claimed they were being targeted for being an interfaith couple.

According to the petition, Monalisa had applied to the Registrar, Births and Deaths, Municipal Council, Maheshwar, for her birth certificate, giving her date of birth as 01.01.2008 and stating she was born at home. The application was backed by an affidavit from her mother dated 30.05.2025. The certificate was issued after all formalities, which made her 18 years old on January 1, 2026. She married Khan on March 11, 2026.

Father's Application And Alleged Forgery

The petition said her father later approached the Block Medical Officer, Community Health Centre, Maheshwar, seeking cancellation of the certificate, claiming she was born at the Government Hospital, Community Health Centre, Maheshwar, and not at home.

Monalisa alleged that her father furnished wrong details and that the date of birth entered in the second certificate, issued on March 31, 2026 after her marriage, was actually her brother's. The petitioners asked the court to cancel that second certificate, which the High Court has now done.
