A 27-year-old woman has been taken into custody in Bengaluru following the gruesome murder of her partner, who was allegedly blindfolded and set on fire under the pretext of a romantic surprise. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning within the Byadarahalli police limits. The deceased, identified as 27-year-old Kiran, was a colleague of the accused, Prerana, at a local telecom company.

The two had reportedly been in a relationship for approximately one year. According to preliminary police findings, Prerana invited Kiran to her residence in Anjanapura while her family members were away. Investigators allege that after a brief conversation, she blindfolded Kiran and tied his limbs to a chair, telling him she was preparing a "foreign-style proposal." Instead, she allegedly doused him in petrol and set him ablaze, resulting in his immediate death. Bengaluru Shocker: Woman Lures Boyfriend for ‘Foreign-Style’ Proposal, Sets Him on Fire After Tying and Blindfolding Him.

The primary angle of the investigation focuses on escalating tensions between the couple. Police officials stated that the motive appears to be rooted in "anger over being neglected." Prerana reportedly felt Kiran had been increasingly ignoring her and was deeply upset by his refusal to commit to marriage.

DCP DL Nagesh noted that these frustrations likely reached a breaking point, leading to the planned encounter on Tuesday. While the accused initially claimed Kiran had set himself on fire while she was in the washroom, forensic evidence and the lack of accelerants brought by the victim quickly debunked her statement. Authorities believe the attack was not a spontaneous act of rage but a premeditated crime. A key factor in this assessment is the presence of petrol at the scene. Police suggest that Prerana had arranged for the fuel in advance, waiting for a window of time when her mother and brother were out of the house to execute the plan.

During the incident, Kiran reportedly questioned why he was being tied so tightly. Prerana allegedly urged him to remain quiet to maintain the surprise of the "proposal." Kiran, expecting a romantic gesture, remained seated and restrained until the attack began.

Following the discovery of the body and the subsequent interrogation, Byadarahalli police moved to detain Prerana. The contradictions in her initial testimony, combined with the physical evidence at the residence, led officials to treat the case as a calculated murder.

The accused remains in custody as police continue to gather evidence regarding the procurement of the petrol and any further communication between the pair leading up to the Tuesday morning meeting. Both the victim’s and the accused’s families are being questioned as part of the ongoing probe.
