PM Narendra Modi Sounds Poll Bugle on Twitter, Urges Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Sachin Tendulkar and Others to Encourage Citizens to Vote in Lok Sabha Elections 2019

New Delhi, March 13: With Lok Sabha elections are just a month away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to politicians, movie stars, sports personalities, top industrialists, journalists and spiritual leaders of the country to encourage voters to come out for voting. PM Modi in a series of tweets urged political leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee to help bring more people out to vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Apart from Gandhi and the West Bengal Chief Minister he also tagged Shard Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati Tejashwi Yadav and MK Stalin.

In his tweet, he said, “I appeal to @RahulGandhi, @MamataOfficial, @PawarSpeaks, @Mayawati, @yadavakhilesh, @yadavtejashwi and @mkstalin to encourage increased voter participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. A high turnout augurs well for our democratic fabric.” In another tweet, the Prime Minister also urged Karnataka Cm HD Kumaraswamy, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Aditya Thackeray to work towards bringing maximum Indians to the polling booths. In other tweets, he tagged Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma and more. In the tweets, he has requested these celebs to appeal to the fans to vote. As these celebs have a massive amount of fandom, the crucial message of voting can be spread easily through these personalities. In one of his tweets, he wrote, “Urging @SrBachchan, @iamsrk and @karanjohar to creatively ensure high voter awareness and participation in the coming elections. He also mentioned sportspersons P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, S..Kidambi; actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, business leaders Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra to encourage more voting in polls. In one of the tweets to Indian cricketers including Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, he wrote, “Dear @msdhoni, @imVkohli and @ImRo45, You are always setting outstanding records on the cricketing field but this time, do inspire the 130 crore people of India to set a new record of high voter turnout in the upcoming elections. When this happens, democracy will be the winner!”

PM Modi also appealed to top industrialists including Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra to encourage citizens to come out for voting. He Tweeted, “Dear @RNTata2000, @anandmahindra and @ashishchauhan, India wins when our democracy gets strengthened. Ensuring maximum participation in voting is the perfect way to strengthen democracy. Can we all make this happen?” In a separate tweet, he tagged cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar and renowned music director AR Rehman.

Meanwhile, on March 10, the EC announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Polling will take place in seven phases between April 11 and May 23. The results will be declared by the ECI on May 23.
