New Delhi, July 11: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the sufferings of the farmers across the nation and take necessary steps to make their lives better. During his address in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Gandhi said the farmers in the country are suffering and asked the government to take concrete steps regarding the issue. "I would like to draw the govt's attention towards it. No concrete steps were taken in the Union Budget to provide relief to the farmers", Gandhi said. The Congress leader also requested the Central government to direct the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to consider the moratorium by Kerala governmenrt. "I would like to request the Central govt to direct RBI to consider the moratorium by Kerala govt & ensure that banks don't threaten farmers with recovery notice", Gandhi said in his address.

He further added saying that on Wednesday, a farmer in Wayanad committed suicide due to debt, adding that in Wayanad, bank notices for non payment of loans given to 8000 farmers. "Under a relevant act their properties are attached against their bank loans, this is resulting in rise in farmers suicide", Gandhi said.

On Wednesday, Gandhi visited his former parliamentary constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and said it feels like 'coming home'. This was Gandhi’s first visit after he lost the family bastion Amethi to Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani by more than 52,000 votes in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

During his visit, the Gandhi scion termed the work of opposition as most enjoyable and easy while addressing party workers of his former constituency. "Narendra Modi is Prime Minister, Yogi ji is Chief Minister & Member of Parliament is from BJP (Smriti Irani). We have to do the work of opposition now. You know that the work of opposition is most enjoyable, it is easy. You now have to do the work of the opposition in Amethi", he said.
