Mahatma Gandhi has been known for his instrumental role in the freedom struggle of India. Rightly called as the 'Father of the nation,' Mahatma Gandhi helped our countrymen fight the British regime. By adopting non-violence as a method, Gandhi inspired many people to tread on his path. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar. Importance and Significance of the Day

Gandhi was very humble in his appearance, with his traditional Indian dhoti and a shawl, which was woven on a Charkha. He was a good example of modesty taking charge and control of the nation to say. Mahatma Gandhi became a president of the Indian National Congress and began addressing all the social issues. He reaped the seeds of truth and non-violence. He also protested against the tax on salt and took the Dandi March. Gandhi's role in the entire freedom movement was very important not just for India, but his ideal of non-violence is a good example for the world to see. October 2 is thus also celebrated as  International Day of Non-Violence.
