GeeBee Boxing Tournament: Shiva Thapa, Sachin Siwach Assured of Medals

New Delhi [India], Mar 09 (ANI): Shiva Thapa, Sachin Siwach are among the eight Indian boxers who have been assured of medals by entering the semi-finals of the 39th GeeBee Boxing Tournament 2019 in Helsinki, Finland.Former Asian Championship gold medallist Shiva Thapa led the Indian contingent with a commanding 5-0 win over Poland’s Dominik Palak in the 60kg category.The youth champion Sachin Siwach has also made the semi-finals in 52 kg category defeating Russia’s Tamir Galanov.It was a field day for the Indians as they had four more winners as 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg), Kavinder Singh Bisht (56kg), Dinesh Dagar (69kg), and Naveen Kumar (+91kg) all made the last-four stage.In the 69kg category, Dinesh Dagar continued his impressive run after scoring a huge upset win over former Olympic bronze medallist Evaldas Petrauskas.Battling it out in the Super Heavyweight category, Naveen Kumar had a flawless 5-0 win over local favourite in Antti Lehmusvirpi.However, the campaign for Prayag Chauhan and Sanjay ended in the 75kg category and 81kg category respectively.Besides these six boxers, India is already confirmed of two more medals by virtue of 2017 Asian Championships silver medallist Sumit Sangwan (91kg) and Govind Kumar Sahani (49kg) reaching the semi-finals.Shiva Thapa will take on Russia's Mikhail Varlamov in the semi-finals whereas Sachin Siwach will play battle it out with Kyrgyzstan’s Azat Usenaliev in the semi-finals.
