Goa Government Gives Nod to Detention Centre for Lodging Illegally Staying Foreigners
Goa government on Thursday issued order regarding detention centre for lodging foreigners staying illegally in Goa.
Porvorim (Goa) [India], Feb 7 (ANI): The Goa government on Thursday issued orders regarding detention centre for lodging foreigners staying illegally in Goa.The detention centre will be used to house the immigrants staying without any travel documents, till their deportation.Goa police had been requesting and pursuing it for a long time.“The government of Goa herby requires the illegal immigrants or foreign nationals awaiting deportation to reside in the Detention Centre of Old Judicial Lock-up at Mapusa next to the Mapusa police station,” read a portion of order issued by the department of home, the government of Goa.In light of the order, Goa police also asserted that it would help it in dealing with the criminal elements from foreign countries who were exploiting the fact that there was no detention centre here.
