The Goa government will implement the National Education Policy (NEP) from the next academic year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Panaji, Aug 1 (PTI) The Goa government will implement the National Education Policy (NEP) from the next academic year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The new policy will bring about a huge change in the education scenario in the state, he said.
Under NEP, for the first three years students in the age group 3-6 (pre-primary to Class II) will be given `pre- school' education, he said.
"Standards three, four and five would be called `preparatory education', while next three years of standard six, seven and eight will be classified as `middle class'.
"Standards nine, ten, eleven and twelve would be considered as `secondary education'," he said.
Sawant, who himself holds the education portfolio, said the state has around 100 aided schools which have less than 100 students each, and the government is considering their merger with nearby bigger schools from the next year.
