North Garo Hills (Meghalaya) [India], October 2 (ANI): As an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck Meghalaya's North Garo Hills on Monday evening, the area is likely to experience the first aftershock within 24 hours, National Center for Seismology said. 

As per the NCS, the aftershock is expected to be between 4.0 to 4.2 magnitude.

"NCS has a close watch on it for recording its aftershocks to get the stress released! Expected first aftershock of Magnitude 4.0 to 4.2 within 24 hours!," the NCS said in a post on the social media platform, X. 

Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 hit North Garo Hills at around 6.15 pm.
