Sikar (Rajasthan) [India], June 8 (ANI): Newly elected CPI(M) MP from Sikar, Amra Ram said that he would oppose the government policies that are pro-big business and detrimental to the interest of the common people.

"I want to assure my voters in Sikar, that I will stand up to your expectations and take all your issues to the Parliament," Amra Ram told ANI.

He said that he would oppose the laws that are against the workers, farmers and the youth of the country.

"The agitation to oppose the policies that are against the common man and in favour of big businesses will continue," he said.

Amra Ram also supported the Central Industrial Security Force woman constable who allegedly slapped newly elected MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport. He termed the alleged slap "befitting answer" to those who opposed the farmers' agitation.

"I would like to thank the brave soldier who gave a befitting answer to those opposing the farmers' agitation," he said.

Amra Ram won the Sikar constituency, defeating BJP's Sumedhanand Saraswati with a margin of 72,896 votes. Amra Ram, 72, contested from Sikar, a Jat-dominated constituency, in alliance with the opposition Congress.

He is a four-time CPI(M) MLA and a prominent farmer leader known for his advocacy of farmers' rights and has led several agitations.

He previously represented the Dhod Assembly constituency three times between 1993 and 2003 and won from Danta Ramgarh in 2008.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP won 14 out of 25 seats in Rajasthan, while the Congress managed to secure eight seats there. The CPI (M), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Bharat Adivasi Party managed to clinch one seat each.

In the 2019 election, the BJP had secured a majority in Rajasthan getting 24 seats while the Congress drew blank. (ANI)
