Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 1 (ANI): The INDIA parties on Friday passed a resolution in its Mumbai meeting. In the resolution, the Opposition bloc announced that they have resolved to fight the upcoming election together. Also, the INDIA bloc said that the seat-sharing arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take.

"We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. Seat-sharing arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take," reads the resolution passed by the Opposition's Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc.

On the second day of the meeting, the INDIA conference held important discussions as to how to take on the central government. The first meeting of the INDIA conference was convened in Bihar's Patna on June 23, and the second meeting was held in Karnataka's Bengaluru on July 17 and 18.

Notably, the development has come at a time when the Centre announced it was constituting a "One nation, one election" committee, which will be headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The move has sparked sharp reactions from the Opposition leaders who have said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is nervous as the Opposition is gaining ground, while some leaders have called it "unconstitutional".

BJP leaders on the other hand have welcomed the idea of "One nation, one election". Speaking to ANI, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Today PM Narendra Modi has taken a very landmark decision by appointing a commission to look after the issue of 'One Nation, One Election'. I am very happy that a person of stature like Ram Nath Kovind Nath has accepted the offer. Multiple elections involve lots of money and because every time India is in election mode development suffers a lot."

The concept of "One nation, single election" means that both Lok Sabha and state assembly elections will be synchronised. (ANI)
