Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 23 (ANI): Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava has said that Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) passed a proposal to use ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India’ in all its documents and programs which is according to the Constitution.

A proposal for the same has been passed in the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) meeting on Friday, September 22.

Bhargava said, "We have passed two proposals in an official meeting of the MIC (Indore Municipal Corporation). One is the vote of thanks for the Women's Reservation Bill... Secondly, the Municipal Council will use 'Bharat' instead of 'India' in all its documents and programs which is according to the Constitution..."

The Women's Reservation Bill which is called 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' was passed in the Rajya Sabha Thursday. While the Lok Sabha had already given its nod to the Bill on Wednesday.

The Upper House, on Thursday, passed the bill, which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha as well as the state legislative assemblies, unanimously with 214 members voting in support and none against.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Bill aced the legislative test in the Lok Sabha as it was passed by a brute majority of 454 votes in favour and just 2 against.

Indore Mayor further said, “Secondly, the Municipal Corporation will use 'Bharat' instead of 'India' in all its documents and programs which is according to the Constitution. These were the two proposals which were passed in the MIC meeting.”

The controversy around India versus Bharat was triggered after the invitation for the G20 dinner was sent out in the name of the President of 'Bharat' and not India.

The debate started after Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared on X, formerly Twitter, a G20 dinner invite in which President Droupadi Murmu was described as 'President of Bharat'. (ANI)
