Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], July 30 (ANI): Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty has directed that power connections in Wayanad's Chooralmala and Mundakkai landslide-affected areas be restored as soon as possible, the office of the Minister of Electricity said on Tuesday.

Minister Krishnankutty has instructed that power restoration efforts be focused on all areas except for seven transformers in the disaster-affected region, which serve about 1,400 consumers. Efforts to restore power to other areas are expected to be restored by this evening. Further assessments will be carried out in consultation with disaster management authorities.

The Minister will visit the affected areas soon to directly evaluate the restoration efforts.

According to the minister's office, approximately 3 kilometres of high-tension lines and 8 kilometres of low-tension lines within the Meppadi electrical section have been completely destroyed following the landslides.

Additionally, two transformers have gone missing, while three others have been damaged. Serious damage has also been reported in the lines within two transformer zones. As a result, power services to around 350 homes have been completely disrupted, the officials said.

Over 80 bodies were recovered and around 116 people were injured in the landslides that hit the Meppadi area of Wayanad in Kerala in the early hours of Tuesday. (ANI)
