Tehri Garhwal (Uttarakhand) [India], August 1 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a field inspection of the disaster-affected area at Jakhanyali in Tehri-Garhwal district of Uttarakhand on Thursday.

During the inspection, CM Dhami met the families of the deceased in the disaster-affected area and consoled them.

The Chief Minister prayed to God for peace of the departed souls and patience to the bereaved family. He said that in this hour of disaster, the government and administration are standing with the affected. The government will provide all possible help to the affected. He said that all people should work as each other's support at this time.

The Chief Minister said that the disaster in the area has caused great loss of life, animal loss and other assets. The safety of people is the first priority of the state government during the disaster.

In the meanwhile, CM Dhami also directed the District Magistrate of Tehri-Garhwal to provide immediate relief to the disaster-affected and make all necessary arrangements in the relief camps.

The Chief Minister directed the District Magistrate to assess the damage caused by the disaster and take immediate protective work. He has also given instructions to streamline road connectivity, electricity and drinking water supply to make life normal in the disaster-affected area.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to remain in alert mode as per the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department.

District Magistrate Tehri-Garhwal, Mayur Dixit informed that an information was received about a hotel being washed away due to cloudburst near Jakhanyali in Ghansali block of Tehri district late last night.

As soon as the information of the incident was received, teams of departments like revenue team, police, SDRF, health, road, electricity etc. left for the spot along with JCB and ambulance.

Earlier in the day it was reported that two people were found dead and another was injured after the trio went missing following a cloudburst at Jakhanyali in the Ghansali area of Tehri Garhwal district.

The deceased were identified as Bhanu Prasad (50) and Anita Devi (45).

A spokesperson from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said that after receiving information about three people missing due to a cloudburst last night at Jakhanyali in the Ghansali area of Tehri the SDRF team searched the area.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert in Uttarakhand for the next five days.

Uttarakhand government has also issued a safety advisory for Chardham Yatra pilgrims amid forecasts of heavy rainfall across the state. Authorities have appealed to devotees to delay their journeys until weather conditions improve and to remain in safe locations.

DGP Abhinav Kumar has urged pilgrims and devotees to be cautious and to start their journey only after breaks. He emphasized the importance of staying in safe places and following local authorities' instructions.

"The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in most districts of Uttarakhand. Your safety is our priority," the DGP said. (ANI)
