Bhubaneswar, Apr 26 (PTI) College students in the tribal-dominated Koraput district of Odisha on Tuesday for the first time had the opportunity to witness modern weapons used by Border Security Force (BSF).

The paramilitary force, deployed in Koraput and some other left-wing extremism hit districts, displayed arms, ammunition, and special equipment used by them at an event in Vikram Deb (Autonomous) College in Jeypore.

Small arms, assault rifles, hand grenades, UBGL (under-barrel grenade launcher), mortars, LMGs (light machine guns),Gs (medium machine guns), HHMD (hand-held metal detectors), thermal imaging devices, night-vision equipment were displayed and their functioning was explained to the students, a BSF press release said.

BSF DIG Madan Lal interacted with the students and explained to them the evolution of arms and the advanced development of weapons.

He also highlighted that medical camps, awareness programmes, sports activities, and distribution of sports items are organised by the BSF to inspire youngsters.

“Such programmes will instil patriotism among students,” the DIG said.
