New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) The enforcement team of the Delhi government's Excise Department on Thursday recovered 168 cartons of liquor smuggled into the city for sale, officials said.
An UP resident, Deepu (25), was caught red-handed while he was handling the illicit consignment, an official of the department said.
The seized items included 135 cartons of country liquor, 23 cartons of Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and 10 cartons of beer. The illicit liquor was smuggled into the city from Haryana, they said.
The enforcement team, comprising inspector Rohit Kumar and head constables Vikram Yadav and Sanjay Kumar, had been gathering information regarding the supply of illicit liquor in Onkar Nagar of Trinagar area for the past one week.
Through consistent surveillance and local inputs, the team identified a godown and recovered the illicit liquor from there, said a senior excise department officer.
A case was registered in the matter at Kehsav Puram police station in northwest Delhi under relevant provisions of the Delhi Excise Act, he said, adding the estimated value of the illicit liquor recovered stood at 5.7 lakh.
