New Delhi, July 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Maneka Gandhi shared a picture of her in a saree that she claimed was woven by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, while he was in jail. However, the BJP MP deleted the tweet after her caption to the picture generated considerable controversy. The BJP MP tweeted her image with the hashtag #SareeTwitter, which is the latest social media fad.

The "70 years old saree" worn by Maneka Gandhi, as claimed by the BJP lawmaker, went viral on Twitter. Maneka Gandhi shared a picture of her in a pink saree from son and MP Varun Gandhi’s wedding. Varun Gandhi is married to Yamini Roy.

Maneka Gandhi shared her picture in the saree and wrote in his tweet that, “The cotton saree that I’m wearing was woven by Pt. Nehru in jail and is now over 70 years old. I wore it on my son’s wedding in Benares. My daughter-in-law Yamini is wearing an antique saree which was given to me by my mother-in-law on my wedding day.”

However, the tweet gave rise to many comments with Twitter users questioning Maneka Gandhi's claim. As reactions over the caption of the pictures kept growing, Maneka Gandhi deleted the picture from Twitter.
