The name Karwa Chauth is derived from the two Sanskrit word, 'Karwa', which means earthen pot and 'Chauth' which means 'fourth' in Hindi. Women break their fast by sighting the moon and performing puja. While breaking the fast, women look at their husband through a sieve while performing the traditional rituals. The husband breaks the fast of their wives by offering them water and food.
