Several political leaders and Union ministers including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 72nd death anniversary on Thursday. Sardar Patel passed away in 1950 in Mumbai (then Bombay) on December 15. Popularly called as the ‘Iron Man of India’, Patel was the first home minister and deputy prime minister of India. He is credited largely with the unification of the princely states in India after independence from the British.
