FC Barcelona began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Monaco.

Jose Maria Gimenez scored a last minute screamer for Atletico Madrid which helped them secure three points over RB Leipzig. Antoine Griezmann was awarded with the Player of the Match title for his overall performance.

Atletico Madrid now have similar points as Real Madrid and are in the second spot in the La Liga 2024-25 points table after their 3-0 win over Valencia. Atletico Madrid's attack completely decimated Valencia's defence.

Even though France won their opening match in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, two of their star attackers suffered serious injuries in the match. Kylian Mbappe had a broken nose, while Antoine Griezmann suffered a head injury after hitting the advertising board.

Atletico hadn't won its group since the 2016-17 season, when it eventually reached the semifinals and lost to city rival Real Madrid. Simeone's team was eliminated in the group stage last season, making it only the second time in 11 years that Atletico didn't advance to the knockout rounds.
